Welcome to Kamakura & Shonan!
As we dive into mid-July, the summer season is in full swing. Whether you’re here for a day trip or an extended vacation, July 18 offers a perfect blend of sunshine, culture, and coastal charm. Here’s everything you need to know to make the most of your visit today.
🌊 Beach Vibes: Yuigahama & Shichirigahama
The summer heat is on, and the beach is calling!
Yuigahama Beach is now fully open with dozens of umi-no-ie (temporary beach huts) offering food, drinks, rental gear, and shaded lounges. Today, live DJs are scheduled from 3 PM to 6 PM at “Seaside Lounge K-Station,” creating the perfect atmosphere for sunset watching.
Tip: Most beach huts accept credit cards and offer English menus. If you need a break from the sun, nearby cafes like Sabrina Café offer excellent iced matcha and sea views.
Local Rule Reminder: Swimming is allowed, but water sports like surfing are restricted at Yuigahama during daytime hours in July and August.
🏯 Hidden Cultural Spot: Zeniarai Benten Shrine
Want a break from the crowds? Visit Zeniarai Benten Shrine, one of Kamakura’s most mystical places. It’s famous for its spring water where you can “wash” your money — said to multiply your fortune!
Directions:
Take a 25-minute walk from Kamakura Station westward, or rent a bicycle from Kamakura Rent-A-Cycle. Be sure to bring a coin or bill to wash, and a small towel.
Pro Tip: Arrive early (before 10 AM) to avoid tour groups and enjoy the sound of birds and waterfalls in silence.
